Laser hair removal at home - The truth
Have you noticed when reading a glowing product review in a magazine or online that a few pages later there is a large advert placed by a marketing agency for the product manufacturer. One of the most hyped product ranges in our industry are home laser systems. We are here to cut through the flannel and draw a clear comparison between a home system and that found in a beauty clinic so you can decide whether you stand a chance of getting the permanent hair reduction results you deserve. Laser hair removal in London
Clinics offering laser hair removal in London should be amongst the safest in the land as legislation is in place to carry out safety testing but Special Treatment Licences issued under the London Local Authorities Act 1991 are not being enfoced. We contacted over 50 London clinics and not one responded with evidence of being checked. The Special Treatment Premises Code of Practice will require that a certificated Laser Protection Advisor (LPA) is used to produce local rules and provide ongoing support and advice.
We believe the reason Borough Safety Officers are not inspecting clinics is down to usual cuts in public spending. This, however, does not appear to be totally about money as the legislation is in place, codes of practice have been written and WhichLaserClinic.com is being offered as a free resource to register clinics which have been checked. The safety officer's time is paid for by the Special Treatment Licence fee. There should be no outstanding cost to the Government and fees should be kept at reasonable levels for struggling laser clinics. If you have time please add your name to our new ePetition to restart mandatory checking of aesthetic laser and ipl clinics. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/27899
People that we currently trust to check laser clinics in London are;- 1) Care Quality Commission, who still check surgical laser clinics 2) Laser Protection Advisors 3) Trained Local Authority Safety Officers.

Looking for a safe local aesthetic clinic offering non surgical treatments such as laser hair removal used to be easy as they were all regulated by law. Since October 2010 the industry has been deregulated and it is very difficult for people looking for aesthetic treatments to find a clinic which is professional and safe.
WhichLaserClinic.com is the first registry since deregulation to check clinics meet safety criteria making professional clinics stand out from the crowd BUT this is not enough and we are not happy that cowboy clinics are still abusing unsuspecting clients which is why we are lobbying the Dept. of Health to reinstate mandatory checks on all non-surgical clinics.
Current UK legislation is reactive which
means it is very effective once an accident has happened. In this environment we ask all new clinics to show they have been independently checked by either a Laser Protection Advisor (LPA), the CQC, or Local Authority Safety Officers. Other attributes such as hair removal equipment, training, specialist treatments etc.. are contained within the listing for you to check and compare.
Take time to find the most professional clinic. Clinics who still prioritise safety are more likely to be fully trained and have lots of experience. To give you maximum value per treatment your laser clinician will be using the highest safe energy level (fluence) to the treatment area after assessing your hair and skin type. For example if you have fair skin fluencies can be used from 25 to 40 J/cm² for darker skin types 10 to 20 J/cm². A cowboy clinic will be more likely to use 10J/cm² on everyone they treat. They may not burn anyone but neither will they stand much chance of providing good long term hair removal results once you have visited them for the usual 6 to 8 treatments at great cost.
