The Radiological Protection Centre (RPC) for Laser Protection Adviser Services in London

Laser Protection Advisory Services
Users of Class 3B lasers (with certain exceptions), Class 4 lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) sources in the private and voluntary healthcare sectors are required to appoint a Laser Protection Adviser (LPA). Department of Health guidance recommends that an LPA should be appointed for installations, including NHS Trusts, where these classes of lasers are operated. RPC can provide laser and IPL protection advisory services, drawing on the expertise of a dedicated team.
We can help your organisation by:
- Acting as LPA to users of surgical and physiotherapy lasers and providing Local Rules for the use of each laser.
-
Advising on the legislative requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000 (CSA) for lasers and IPL's.
-
Keeping you up-to-date on any new and forthcoming requirements of the National Minimum Standards and CSA Regulations and other legislation and guidance.
-
Undertaking an annual audit of laser protection and providing a status report.
-
Providing a unique handbook for Laser Protection Supervisors, which includes a record-keeping scheme that applies the principles of quality management to laser protection.
-
Advising on the design of laser rooms and operating theatres.
-
Investigating incidents.
-
Liaising with the Care Quality Commission (CQS) and HSE Inspectors if required.
-
Providing training for Laser Protection Supervisors, laser operators and other staff involved with lasers or IPL's, either as part of our regular programme of training courses or on your site.
